What you see here are the first pics of the 2013 Honda CBR500, CB500X and CB500R, all three of which have been engineered primarily for Asian markets and are likely to come to India early next year. The CBR500 is a fully-faired sportsbike, the CB500R is a regular, commuter-style bike with no fairing and the CB500X is a dual-purpose machine. All three are powered by the same liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 500cc parallel-twin that produces about 45-48bhp and 40Nm of torque (estimated figures). Also, all three bikes will be fitted with a 6-speed transmission, will weigh between 180-195kg and will have a top speed of around 165km/h.

The 2013 Honda CBR500, CB500X and CB500R will go into production next year and will first be manufactured at Honda’s facility in Thailand. Honda will then either import these bikes from Thailand to India as CKDs/SKDs, or HMSI might even decide to assemble the three bikes at its own facility in India. Either way, this will mean that a whole new range of reasonably high-performance Honda bikes will be available here, at an affordable price point. We’ll bet Bajaj, KTM, Kawasaki, Hyosung and Yamaha are worried already!
The new Honda 500cc range will be officially unveiled at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan next month, so we’ll be bringing more information on these new machines soon.
