Firstly, of course the event is now to be known as “Auto Expo – the Motor Show 2014”.
It will be held at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida, which is about 38km away from Pragati Maidan, last year’s venue. Traditionally, the event, a premier auto expo in India, was held around the first week of January, year after year. In 2014, however, the dates have been pushed ahead by a month to February 6-12.
The dates of Auto Expo India 2014Â were changed in order to avoid a clash with the Detroit Auto Show, according to sources at Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
Several top auto executives had committed to attending the show at Detroit, due to which their attendance at the Delhi show would have been impossible. “Many top auto executives had in the past expressed their inability to attend the Delhi Auto Expo due to their commitments at the Detroit Show which falls around the same time in January. With Pragati Maidan unavailable for the new dates, the venue too had to be shifted,” explained Vishnu Mathur, Director General, SIAM.
